 Hoofer Youth Program
The Hoofer Youth Program offers quality on-the-water instruction
with a focus on fun and learning. Courses in sailing,
windsurfing, canoeing,
and kayaking are open to youth ages 10-18
and range from beginner to advanced.
Programs are designed to teach outdoor recreation skills
while encouraging youth to have fun and develop personally
in the areas of communication, self-reliance, sportsmanship,
and respect for others. Hoofers promotes a constant awareness
of safety, emphasizes the importance of working together,
and teaches students to adapt themselves to the forces of
nature.
Highlights for Summer 2010!!
Staff has worked hard on plans for this summer and we are very excited about the many opportunities for fun and learning.
- A new fleet of youth specific boats! The BYTE, often called the "International Youth Boat" is a single sailor boat that we've integrated into Sailing 2 & 3, Advanced Day Camp, Racing Day Camp and our new BYTE specific class
- A keelboat class where students will learn how to sail on our fleet of 11 22'-36' keelboats while learning a variety of skills including compass reading, navigation, man-overboard drills and more.
- A weeklong hybrid racing day camp where students will gain an introduction to the joys of racing on all our fleets of boats and have the opportunity to work with the national level collegiate sailors on staff.
- A J-Boat racing class in which students can learn to work together in teams of 4-5 to sail and race our smaller keelboats
- Online registration. New this year, you will be able to sign your child up for our classes online using a credit card and save a trip down to Hoofers (you can still mail in check or stop in for cash signup).
